Briggs Books by Mail

Briggs Library is offering a service to support online only students during the COVID-19 emergency by sending physical research materials to students unable to come to campus.  The following guidelines and directions apply to this service first offered for the 2020-2021 fall semester.   

  • Send an e-mail to UMMILL@morris.umn.edu that includes the name, student ID and address where the materials should be sent as well as the author, title, publication date and call number (from the Pounce catalog) of items requested.

  • Items from the following collections will not be included in this service:  Course Reserve, Reference, UMM Archives, West Central Minnesota Historical Research Collection, Rare Books, Faculty and Staff Scholarship Collection, or one of the media collections. 

  • This email request will serve as the authorization for the library to check out books on the student’s library account.  The student is responsible for all losses, damages and fines incurred for any item requested through Briggs Books by Mail.

  • The loan period for Briggs Books by Mail will be the standard 13 weeks, with one automatic renewal.

  • A student may request and use up to five items from Briggs library at one time.

  • We will not be able to re-send materials requested through the interlibrary loan service.

  • These items are subject to recall after two weeks if needed for course reserve or other reasons.

  • A follow-up email will be sent to the student indicating the due date(s), shipment date and policies of the service.

  • The student is responsible for securely packaging and mailing the items back to the library.
