Academic Search Premier

Offers scholarly and popular articles from thousands of journals and magazines in a wide array of subjects.

ACS Web Editions

Provides access to the 34 peer-reviewed publications of the American Chemical Society. Includes more than 750,000 articles spanning 130-plus years. Learn how to search this database.

America: History and Life

America: History and Life (AHL) is an index of literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present.   Includes more than 1,700 indexed journals.

Anthropology Plus

Provides indexes and abstracts for anthropology and archaeology. Includes Harvard University's Anthropological Literature database as well as the United Kingdom's Anthropological Index. Limit of one simultaneous user.

Art Full Text

Provides access to more than 500 journals with nearly 200 available in full text. Find out how to search this database.

Bibliography of Native North Americans

Bibliography of Native North Americans (BNNA) contains over 141,000 citations for books and journal articles from the U.S. and Canada covering Native American culture and history. This resource includes a wide range of topics including archaeology, multicultural relations, gaming, governance, legend, and literacy.

Business Source Premier

Business Source Premier (BSP) provides full-text business journals and hundreds of scholarly, peer-reviewed publications covering all aspects of business marketing, management, economics, finance, accounting, international business and more.

Communications and Mass Media Complete

Provides more than 460 journals (350 of them fill text) in the area of mass media and communication.

Database Searching Examples

Briggs Library subscribes to more than 140 licensed databases. Learn how to search in a few of the most comprehensive ones, such as Academic Search Premier, Expanded Academic, and JSTOR.

EBSCO MegaFILE

EBSCO MegaFILE is comprised of the databases Academic Search Premier, MasterFILE Premier, Business Source Premier, and Regional Business News. It provides full text for nearly 12,000 total publications as well as indexing and abstracting for more than 16,000 publications. While these publications cover a wide range of interdisciplinary subjects, this database is best for finding business and management sources.

EconLit

EconLit is a comprehensive index to the world's economic literature from over 750 journals. An expanded version of the Journal of Economic Literature indexes, the database also contains abstracts of published books, conference proceedings, dissertations, and working papers. Subject coverage includes economic theory and application.

Education Full Text

Education Full Text offers detailed bibliographic records of journal articles, books and dissertations. The database contains over full text of articles from more than 530 journals and indexing for more than 1,000 periodicals. Citations can be found from the late 1960s to the present.

EndNote User's Guide

Briggs Library subscribes to a campuswide license for the bibliographic software EndNote. Use it to organize your research sources, create bibliographies and footnotes using thousands of citation styles. 

Environment Complete

Environment Complete offers deep coverage in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, natural resources, pollution and waste management, environmental law and public policy, and more.

ERIC

ERIC provides access to educational-related literature including journal articles, conferences, meetings, government documents, theses, dissertations, reports, audiovisual media, bibliographies, directories, books and monographs.

Evaluating Sources

Learn how to tell if sources are valid and reliable.

Expanded Academic ASAP

Expanded Academic ASAP is a multidisciplinary database containing over 5,300 journals, scholarly and popular, from Gale. While many of the journals are available in full text, there are some publication limitations for the most current articles.

GenderWatch

GenderWatch provides authoritative historical and current perspectives on the evolution of gender roles as they affect both men and women.  Subject coverage includes supports gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) studies; family studies; gender studies, and women’s studies disciplines.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar is a web search engine that searches specifically for academic journals and books, conference papers, theses and dissertations, technical reports, and court opinions and patents. It is NOT a library database. 

Historical Abstracts

Historical Abstracts is an index of literature on the history of the world from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada, which are covered in the America: History and Life database). The database includes citations and links to journal articles, dissertations, and book and media reviews.

Interlibrary Loan

If there's a book, article, or some other item that you need and Briggs Library doesn't have it, don't worry. All you have to do is request the material through interlibrary loan. We can obtain items from all over the world. Learn how you can get what you need fast. 

JSTOR

Provides access to hundreds of scholarly journals all in full text from the late 18th century to the last few years. Learn how to search this archival database.

Modern Language Association (MLA) International

Produced by the Modern Language Association, MLA International Bibliography includes 1.8 million citations from more than 4,000 journals and book publishers, as well as full-text articles.

New York Times Historical

Search Current New York Times (1980-Current) and Historical New York Times (Sept. 18, 1851-Dec. 31, 2004).

PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES

PsychINFO includes information from more than 1300 international journals in psychology and related fields. Make these two premier psychology databases work for you.

Scholarly vs. Popular Materials

Science Direct

Offers more than 25 percent of the world's science, technology, and medicine full-text and bibliographic information. Find out how you can search it.

SciFinder Scholar

SciFinder Scholar provides access to the CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) databases covering the chemical literature, chemical substances and reactions, chemical catalogs and regulatory information, as well as the Medline database.

SPORTDiscus

SPORTDiscus offers detailed bibliographic records of journal articles, books and conference proceedings. Subject coverage includes sport, physical fitness, exercise physiology, biomechanics, coaching, facilities and equipment, sports medicine, sports science, and allied subjects.

Using FindIt

Most library databases provide the full text of the article. Click "view online," "PDF," or on the "Find it" button in the results to connect to the full text if we have it.  

Web of Science

Includes Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index as well as the Cited Reference Search tool. Learn how to search this database.

Wiley Online Library

Wiley Online Library provides access to 4 million articles from 1500 journals, almost 10,000 online books, and hundreds of reference works, laboratory protocols and databases. Briggs Library may not have access to all of the citations in full text, but you can search the entire database and then order what you need through ILL.

WorldCat

A global catalog comprised of thousands of libraries. Learn how to search this powerful resource.

Worldwide Political Science Abstracts

Offers abstracts, indexes, and citations from political science serials.
