3D Printing Policy

The Rodney A. Briggs Library 3D printer may be used only for lawful purposes. No one will be permitted to use the library's printer to create material that is:

  • Prohibited by local, state or federal law
  • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others (such use may violate the terms of use of the manufacturer)
  • In violation of another's intellectual property rights. For example, the printer will not be used to reproduce materials subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.
  • Obscene or otherwise inapropriate for the library environment

The library staff reserves the right to refuse any 3D print jobs.

We will complete printing on a first come first serve basis. Patrons are strongly advised to submit their files at least 5 working days in advance of important deadlines.

Cost: We charge to print on a cost recovery basis. The cost is based upon the material used ($4.50/inch3). We will accept cash, checks made out to UMM Briggs Library or charge to unit accounts (we must have the account string prior to printing). There is a $5.00 minimum charge on all jobs.

Items printed from the library 3D printer not picked up within 14 days after being printed become the property of Briggs Library or recycled.

Only designated library and technology staff will have hands-on access to the 3D printer.

Interested patrons with questions regarding 3D printing should contact Renee Seykora.
